Using and Losing Time
“Time is the stuff that life is made of.” –Benjamin Franklin
I race against time, I race against sleep.
Today can be spent in only so many ways;
And there are only so many days;
And tomorrow looks dark and deep.
So sleepily I stay awake,
And take from life whatever I can take.
Time is what I am losing,
While I am using;
Time is the birth and death of days and nights.
Time is the panther-like lover that kisses, and then bites.
Till the panther bite leaves a wound so deep and wide,
That everything leaks out into the unknown—even the self inside.
