The Best Person I Ever Knew: My Best Friend, Brian
Is there in this world--on this earth--
Anyone who more deserves life and happiness, more than my best friend?
I cannot think of anyone of better worth:
No one kinder, friendlier, more compassionate, more open-hearted--without guile.
No friend more loving, more caring, more giving--
No one so pure of heart--so innocent or any ill will toward anyone--
So full of the joy of life; so lighted from within with the love of life!
His good heart shows in his face and shines in his eyes.
My best friend, Brian.
His laughter is like a heaven of happiness.
His good soul sounds in his voice, and his whole-hearted beams in his smile.
Brian is the kind of friend, it is sure, who will stay a true friend, loyal to the end.
He is the kind of wonderful person who richly deserves to keep living.
In good health. He deserves a long, peaceful, happy life. Precious days of life!
Even in his pain, when pain strikes him, he is ore concerned for me.
Even though he, too, now has incurable cancer, he still worries about me.
And I am concerned for him and worry about his future also:
Like mine, his time has been cut short by cancer, and shadowed with suffering.
Sometimes he grieves for himself; sometimes he grieves for me. He feels fear.
I teach him to treasure today; and to experience what he wants, while he can.
And to enjoy whatever he can still enjoy, while enduring what he must endure.
I tell him not to let tomorrow take away today; to live now, while his life is here.
I try to comfort and strengthen him. Then, when I myself falter and fear and cry,
He reminds me that I said we should live in the moment: fully live, as moments fly.
He tells my own words back to me; and, as I taught him, he teaches me the same.
We lean on each other, and we help each other up when one of us falls.
My best friend is the best person I ever knew. Brian is his name.
