Feeling the Wind
(An acrostic poem, for Anne)
A moment in the sun--
Nothingness a while held back--
Night-time moon and stars; then gone:
Eternity precedes and follows life's brief track.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
An hour of so of sweet sunlight,
Nestling in the nurture of your smile;
Nourishing my soul with your soul bright--
Engaging your mind and heart with my own, for a while.

All that we have is slipping fast away;
Not one thing that we hold dear, can we keep;
Night always follows and swallows every day--
Eternal night wins out, and puts to sleep.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
An hour of conversation with a pleasant and a caring mind,
Noon-bright in its intelligence and spirit's shine;
Nothing that I gain to lose, nor feed to famish when I find,
Exceeds the fleet sweet moments spent with you, who are so fine.
