I am First
Standing at the back of the line
Is fine by me because I need to
Learn some Patience. If I skip ahead,
What good will it do? I have read
That I must change my perspective
Before I can move up a row or two.
That’s what all children who grow up
Do when they become adults. I can’t attend
The Party dressed in these clothes-
Nor get the job I want without making
Some major changes to my casual wardrobe.
Everything I do revolves around Me changing
My point of view into one that lines up with
What You have to say. I may not understand
Every flaw in my character or control every
Emotion that tends to confuse the mess out
Of me- I don’t see my way ahead, nor do I
Have every little thing in my life mapped out.
All I know is that, I must be the first to take
The big dive before I expect You to do
Anything for me. So instead of watching the
Clock, I am working on self-improving me.
