THE VICTOR
Stalemate against the back drop of the woods,
as rivals shriek screech tones in furried fear,
the battle for the feeder down below
erupts for all inhabitants to hear;
The squirrel on dead branch looming large,
blends with the bark in twisted shades of gray,
Above, a little jay in concentrated gaze
in 3 tone burst's of vocal is heard to say...
"I may not be as muscular and huge,
but I have speed excelsior is true,
with which to drop on you as frightened prey
and drive you from my feeder whilst I stay;
I shall protect my source for all it's worth,
to gather seed for those I’ve given birth,
so if you don't relinquish this your claim
my actions then cannot be held in blame"…
Then after many moments of silent stress,
the squirrel turned tail, lept from his branch + left.
So the lesser gained the most on this the day…
the Victor had the most persuasive say.
