Saturday Morning Buckaroo's
Back in the 50's
our hero's had shows
with cowboys and injuns
and great buffalo
That would glue us to TV's
each Saturday morn
with afternoon adventures
in western adorn.
Wearing cowboy hats, western shirts
six guns and jeans
carrying repeating rifles
living out our dreams
We'd ride our wood fences
saddled atop post and rail
through imaginary canyons
down treacherous trails
On the hunt for some rustlers
that stampeded our herd
or shot down some townsfolk
those dirty cowards.
We'd meet at high noon
on the street to fast draw
an stand mono a mono
against an outlaw
Or track injuns that burned down
some settlers home
an fight behind trees
in the woods all the day long.
But without our hero's
we'd not been inspired
to imagine scenario’s
in our western attire.
So thank you Roy Rogers
Gene Autry an Hoppy
for hero's to kids
who's lives we could copy,
Bill Hickok an Masterson
The Lone Ranger an Tonto
Kit Carson, Jim Bowie
Cisco and Poncho.
And big cast adaptations
with plenty of folk
Rawhide, Wagon Train
and especially Gunsmoke.
Then there’s Yuma the Rebel
to add to the rabble
Annie Oakley for girls
an Paladins Have Gun Will Travel.
These were my favorites
but I'd bet you'd agree
Entertainment was best
back when TV was free.
