THE UNIT DWELLER
I’ve got a homeless friend that’s known as Andy
Whose responsibilities are nearly nil,
He doesn’t have to answer for his actions
Or any other’s fantasies fulfill.
This simple lifestyle is of his own choosing
His wants are few, his needs are less,
And as far as his identity
He's a forgotten man with no address.
He works in peoples gardens for fulfillment
And for his share of vegetables and fruit,
And when you think of simple lifestyles
Andy’s resolution’s absolute.
His only forms of transportation
Are his bicycle and two fleet feet with which to walk,
And when engaged in conversation
He’ll crack you up with idle talk.
But his renown is in the details
When he hand washes cars and trucks,
And hand applies his secret waxes
You’d see his finishing touches are deluxe.
We’ll break bread on rare occasions
At a local restaurant,
A buffet that’s both our favorite
That provides your every culinary want.
He lives in the Jentico Plaza
Not at the Waldorf or the Ritz,
But resides in unrented units
Sleeping on the floor devoid of glitz.
He takes pride in his appearance
As he keeps a watchful eye on all the Suite’s,
And if not for this small humble blessing
He’d be living in the street.
But this is of little concern to Andy
A Christian brother that I love,
Who knows someday when up in Heaven
He’ll have room in a mansion up above.
