The Quilted Sky
A warm white woolen blanket
Overhead against the sky,
Or cotton textured fallen snow
Upon plains stretching wide,
This soft acoustic tapestry
Of white with shades of grey,
That move along so seamlessly
Backlit by break of day,
Sweeping south so slowly
Imperceptibly perceived,
Except where melds earths comforter
With sky blues wispy weave.
So nigh it seems to reach the sky
And touch this fluffy sight,
And pull it down and wrap around
A quilt delight in white,
And warm against this winter chill
That steals its way down south,
In crisp dry temperatures that show
Our breath exhaust from mouth,
But alas this scene above
Is earths insulating wrap
So we’ll rely on overcoats
With matching woolen cap.
