What Ali Would've Said
Ali was a man with many, many lines
Wrote a few poems made ‘em all rhyme
wouldn’t do it now but back in the day
He would express himself just this way
A Sista all dressed for a seven o clock date
checked her watch ‘cause the Brotha was late.
I ain't the Brotha if it hada been me
woulda been there since a quarter of three
The Brotha showed up with apologies in hand
hoping she was the type who could understand
He felt so sorry he had to make her wait
He explained somptin came up, left work late
I ain’t the Brotha but if it had been me
would've left the j. o. b. long before three
He walked her to his car there before her eyes
laying on the seat, her just because surprise
He handed her a card with a very special note
Because you’re my baby at the bottom he wrote
What she found inside was a matching set
And two year subscription to Ebony and Jet
The Sista was cool you could see in here eyes
Fore she could thank him he again apologized
I ain’t that Brotha but if hada been me
Twice is too many definitely not three
They took in a show with dinner for two
Brotha couldn’t think of another thing to do
When she suggested he take her home
Where the two of them, could be__ alone
The Sista was getting that look in her eyes
She was in the mood to share her surprise
He glanced at his watch saw it was getting late
Remembered he had an early business date
Now I ain't the Brotha but if it hada been me
I woulda stuck around till half past three
The brother went home for a good nite's sleep
It was quiet as a mouse, with nary a peep
He raised up in the bed with sleep in his eyes
Thought about the Sista and again apologized
I ain’t the Brotha but if it had been me
would've handled things a lil' differently
Instead of eight would've got there at three
Since it was one Sista who was fine as could be
The very next day he called her on the phone
But much to his surprise, she won’t at home
I ain’t that Brotha, but if hada been me
I would still been there, if ya know what I mean!
A week went by, he hadn’t heard a thing
Couldn’t figure why she hadn’t given him a ring
He called once more a dude answered her phone
And no longer wondered what was going on
I ain’t that Brotha but I said my piece
I’ll just git off his case and let him be
The moral of this story, if there is one
Brotha shouldn't leave work to be done
I don’t know but if it was back in the day
Ali would’ve put it just this way
