I Too Am An American: Ode To Cousin CB Veteran WWII
I am an American patriot
I salute her colors
I am an African American
Her darkest brother
I am an American
here for generations
before founding fathers
took over this nation
I am an American
One of her fighting men
go where I’m ordered
or freedom to defend
I am a Black American
Black as I can be
proud of my African heritage
as my American Legacy
every battle she’s fought
was there fighting too
there are rivers of my blood
defending the red white and blue
I stand for the Star Spangled Banner
I stand for Hail To The Chief
I sing America The Beautiful
My Country Tis Of Thee
From Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
I’ve fought her battles
Even when I wasn't yet free
All over this world I’ve fought
Championing de-moc-racy
How long should I fight
Before she liberates me
I am too an American
proud to serve her well
Yet, I wonder if she knows
it seems impossible to tell
Have she forgotten Fort Wagner
my brothers lay there still
Or because of my efforts
she took San Juan Hill
When Iraqi Freedom began
never blinked an eye
I'm her fighting man
my duty, to do or die
I'm proud to be an American
the land I helped make free
But once again I ponder
What she thinks of me
