Between Love And Desire
If your heart is in quest for love and not to quell desire,
Then it is you who must know the difference
Between love and the desire it seeks.
Fall not foolheartedly into the throws of either one
Being in love and desire will deceive you.
For that which often appears to you as one,
Is more apt to be the imposter of the other.
Whose purpose may only be for your deception.
Let not the desire of your heart be your obsession,
As your obsession will often conquer your heart
Occupy your dominion; detain your hopes and dreams.
Give to love your all, but not to your desires
As your desire may visit you, again and again.
For laughter and pleasure, leave sadness and pain
Yet remember so shall love is for raising you up
It can also be for tearing you down
The ways of your desires is commanding
It will often impede your quest for love
And is always lurking just behind you
Just as the thief would in the night when least expected
It will quietly rob you of your greatest possession
Your heart, soul and self-respect.
Let not your love co-mingle with desire
As it will become hard to tell which is which
Until you’re sure it’s love not desire,
You must conceal and keep it as a hidden secret
That your love and desires are on an even keel
It is you who must accept love or desire
In it’s purest or crudest state
Regardless where it is found.
Or where it may find you,
From the most unusual places
To those where you expect it the least.
Both transcend your saneness
Each knows where there are barriers or boundaries.
where your vulnerability can be found
And if it is you that either is after
It is your lack of their understanding
Which could sweep you away into the throws of one.
If love summons your heart
You must go quietly and unassuming
That it is love and not desire that beckoning
When you journey is behind you,
You will know the difference between the two
And which of the them you desired.
If you have been rewarded by each
With it’s presence and self-contentment
Seek not ways to return either in kind
For desire within it self is it’s bounty
Only love is it’s own reward
