The Penny and The Diamond
A penny or a diamond she asks
Which would you prefer sir
Obviously a trick question I propose
No she says, whichever you choose
You may buy this rose or this weed
Please, why do you play these games
It’s all the same mister she whispers
Dazed and confused bruised and bleeding
I don’t understand what I’ve praised
What I’m reading what I’ve raised
The seeds you’ve planted
Am I believing in a greedy God
Or dreaming of a false lit up sky
Tied tightly to an electric rod
Quit thinking so much and decide
So will it be this penny or this diamond?
Well woman now that you ask
I’ll take the shiny diamond, it’s so pretty
Now what can I get for this?
I have not eaten for days
Ever since the great plague
And she replies
Well this loaf of bread cost a pretty penny.
Which would you prefer sir
Obviously a trick question I propose
No she says, whichever you choose
You may buy this rose or this weed
Please, why do you play these games
It’s all the same mister she whispers
Dazed and confused bruised and bleeding
I don’t understand what I’ve praised
What I’m reading what I’ve raised
The seeds you’ve planted
Am I believing in a greedy God
Or dreaming of a false lit up sky
Tied tightly to an electric rod
Quit thinking so much and decide
So will it be this penny or this diamond?
Well woman now that you ask
I’ll take the shiny diamond, it’s so pretty
Now what can I get for this?
I have not eaten for days
Ever since the great plague
And she replies
Well this loaf of bread cost a pretty penny.
