God's Visit
If God gazes down at the Earth this night what will he see?
His creation in turmoil with no resolution in sight.
Parents mourning children lost to war and starvation.
Human kind seeking material pleasures in place of the common good.
If God listens to the Earth this night what will he hear?
Sounds of guns roaring and innocents screaming while armies collide.
Men cursing, women wailing, the aged crying out for help.
Doors slamming on the needy as they seek shelter and food.
If God smells Earth’s air this night what will he sense?
The smell of gun powder and stale waste.
The environment filled with soot and unbreathable air.
The smell of melting ice and rivers teeming with dying fish.
If God visits the Earth this night what will he say?
My children be mindful of the pitfalls of greed and hate.
This Earth is your castle not a playground to amuse and mistreat.
Heed my warning, this Earth and your fellow man cast your eternal reflection.
If they perish from your neglect you too may be lost for all time.
