Full Moon At Half Moon Bay
I knew that it was a risky idea,
But, ignored my gut feeling just the same.
I trudged on despite my nagging fear,
Down the dense forest path to Half Moon Bay.
I decided tonight was the night,
I had procrastinated far too long.
The time had arrived to end this plight,
It was time to face my demons, dead on!
~~~
The full moon shone bright across the bay,
Reflecting memories of what I’d done.
Every month, it would scream out my name,
Reminding me of just what I’d become.
But, tonight would be different I swore,
This agonizing curse would meet it’s end.
The time was now … can’t wait anymore,
Here at Half Moon Bay, the battle begins.
~~~
It was part of our monthly ritual.
Chained and caged for security’s sake,
Ensuring just the blood of beach-bums spill.
Dragging the wheeled cage to the shore’s edge,
Releasing the beast – roaring like thunder.
Feeding each month off vagrants and drunks,
With no families to worry or wonder.
~~~
But, tonight is different, different indeed,
No more innocent lives will be taken.
The beast will not be allowed to feed,
She will be put to death and forsaken.
“My Wife, My Darling, Please forgive me,
With these two silver bullets, I thee wed.
One to free you from the beast you’ve become,
The other to end the howling in my head.”
