FATHER
1965
As a child, there was a man in my life,
He stood very tall and straight.
To me there would never be another man,
Who could ever be this great.
This man was honest as the day was long.
No wrong did he ever do;
So fair and just in all he did,
This one thing I always knew.
He was gentle and kind most of the time,
And yet, I was quick to learn;
He meant what he said and said what he meant;
About this he could be stern.
He was a man of great faith in his God;
This was always true I knew.
For he lived his life as a righteous man,
And this he would always do.
This day this man is living in Heaven,
My feelings never falter.
There will never be a more loving man,
Than my own earthly father
