Encounter
In the autumn of one dark night, shadowed by extorted moon light
In my chambers I lay, quite peaceful and at bay
Watching leafs fall off trees from my window
T’was then that I saw, the night, not peaceful at all
Bore in my mind through the glass and steel I hid behind
From the crimson eyes of a creature most feral
From my heart I knew, there was nothing to do
Here I was prey, from mind to heart came dismay
Those eyes, sanguine, not blinking as the wind blows
And though I knew, I wouldn’t be easy to slew
Black became my mood, from this creature so shrewd
To be hunted, I knew, there was no greater peril
From my bed I rose, to challenge that foe
In my mind, I thought, I need only one shot
In my night cloths I ventured to retrieve my gun
Returning with my tool, practicing as I had in school
I glanced to my window to see, there lay my enemy
Laughing to myself as I wandered to the door for my prize
Out into the cold I walked, like a wolf I stalked
Slowly and quietly I traveled, thinking of how baffled
My prize would look polished and treated in the morning sun
Weapon loaded and turning the corner, my life grew shorter
Did my prey scatter? No… from the roof there came a clatter
I looked up to see the giant wolf dive at me from the skies
