The past is but a shadow in the mist of my mistakes

I have seen the constant struggle of how my heart breaks

As the old fades like gray clouds to birth a sky of blue

My past sins have been forgotten as I come pushing through

So I’m letting go of myself to exchange it for something new

New reasoning clouded my ability to determine the truth that showed the way

How did I come to this state of being that has altered my ego I control?

My hope glowed like sunbeams from the sky that were burning my soul

My heart was touched by grace and then my eyes became drawn to light

My soul was searching for answers and it needed the strength to fight

It was then you swept in like the wind to comfort me like a soft quilt

I can celebrate the joy of salvation inside this mighty warrior you built

With faith and understanding I will push past all barriers that will block

My path that streams a surpassing beauty and a life of passion that can shock

For with the strength of a mighty stone I will break this mirror that has hid

A man whose own reflection must be Christ-like because of what He did

He showed me a world outside my own and gave me a reason to sing

Gave me a heart to worship and eyes that would faithfully honor our King

So as I bear new insight to the mysteries of our wonderful Creator

I’m struck by the mercy and love he showed that was so much greater

A gift no other human could give and a truth no other could hold within

So with eyes that twinkled bright like stars I would gaze at You again

Imagining the beauty of a world beyond what I could not fathom inside

A place that I can call my home when my time is up and I have died

I will carefully watch this world slowly disappear like dust in the air

Renewing my gentle spirit with a newfound joy that will never die

My old life has been left behind with little value and nothing to gain

All the wicked habits I knew before have been flushed out of my brain

But even still my human flesh is dead to this world that we live in

My eyes are attracted to all the temptations that are luring us to sin

How quickly my heart becomes a target and gets lost inside this trap?

My heartbeat is heavy with fear as it quivers like my arms that flap

Not knowing what awaits me as I close my eyes to pass away the time

This new life that holds something incredible will wipe away the slime

So let your mind tune in and listen to this clear signal breaking through

Static is the sin that disconnects your spirits connection to simply renew

As I ask for God’s forgiveness and the strength to stay spiritually pure

I will walk knowing that my God will help me succeed and truly endure

For I know there’s something better than this bitterness I used to taste

I was letting myself be a victim and putting my life to such a waste

So leave me world to decide my life because I don’t need you anymore

I have walked this crooked path before and now I chose a different door
