Forever Never
I laid upon my bed last night
Counting my sorrows as I drifted in and out
I watched each shattered memory take flight
And wondered why now these recollections came about
Haunting faces of my past clouded my sight
And I stumbled o’er the cracks in the floor
I reached for one particular face within the light
And knew I would ne’er see it come through my door
The scent of your skin perfumed the air
And laid across my flesh fresh as unsullied snow
I begged you this memory to ne’er share
And as your laughter surrounded me I knew it’d ne’er be so
I cried when that smile crossed your face
Cried because you could smile in the absence of me
Cried because you ne’er saved me from grace
Cried because I would be no more than a painful memory
I choked on your treacherous words spoken in leisurely tongue
And knew together with you would always be a fight
I tried to write a song for you but thought it best left unsung
Realizing forever with you would ne’er be right
