Dark Heart
I was but love’s slave
Where hope became a new shade of fear
And sorrow poured from reddened eyes
Somewhere lurking deep within
Half-forgotten memories
My heart became a shallow listless lake
Drying inward from the bank
Composed of screams
And cries of hatred
My heart now sings
A most haunting melody
I frolicked over this discordant lullaby
The polluted syllables of repetitious melancholy
And deadly synchronization of bittersweet poetry
I screamed with the angels
Waltzed with the demons
And tripped through a madman’s mind
I suffered these years
Crippling my sanity
With all of my heart’s impurities
So now within the raging fire
That will never expire
Resides a dominion
That will never shed tears
And I will take refuge
In the obsidian oleo of night
As life fades to death.
