When I Look At You
Growing up in west texaswhere you can see
for miles and miles
where people still wave
and smile
practicing ropeing
on that wooden steer
those memories
I will always hold dear
cotton fields
with bowls of white
stars filled
that west texas
sky at night
theres not much
that can surpass
the smell of alphalpha
and
prarie grass
cattle
horses
and bails of hay to
I think of those days
when I look at you
field lark and quail
sing their song
I could listen to them
all day long
red tail hawk
soaring high above
I can hear the cew
of a morning dove
the sound
of a squeeky old windmill
when I think of those days
I can hear it still
use to go swimming
in an old water tank
when i look at you
it makes me think
of those west texas days
long go
these
are some of the things
I want you to know
after a long day of hoeing johnson grass
grandma
would bring to us a cold glass
of homeade ice tea
can..t you see
what those memories
mean to me
after supper
just before it got dark
while sittin
on the front porch
grandpa would remark
thats his favoroite
time of the day
and in the background
I could hear
grandma say
come inside
it..s gettin
to dark to play
you still
may not have a clue
I think of those days
when I look at you
