Do You Remember?
Where were you that September day,
eleven years ago?
Do you remember what you felt
or is it all just a blur to you now?
Did you drop to your knees right there
and pray as you watched the smoke pour into the sky?
Or did you hold some stranger's hand
as you passed them on the street?
Maybe you can't remember what it was like that day
but you know it's always in your heart.
I see the kids holding flags to the sky
as they honor the people who died.
While they silently say a prayer,
for the kids who lost their parents that day,
a tear runs down my face as I stare
at the empty space
in that child's eyes.
Do you remember where in the world
you were,
when the story came on the radio?
Were you driving to work
or hugging your children goodbye
as they rushed off to school?
Can you remember the look on the faces of the people
you passed by on that day?
Did you even notice the tears
forming in their eyes?
I pray for the teachers who had to tell their kids
many people had died.
I see the flags strongly flapping in the wind,
full of pride and honor.
People are walking around
dressed in red, white, and blue,
while others are dressed all in black,
as they mourn for the people who were lost.
It's hard not to sit here and feel your heart ache
as you remember that day like it was yesterday.
Even though I was a kid then,
it's all clear as day.
So tonight as you peacefully fall asleep
try to remember what you felt the day
the world was no longer the same.
Do you remember it at all?
Or have you just forgotten...?
