Broken
The man was broken inside,
surrounded by a smothering darkness,
Each breath, every word, and silent thought,
set spinning by an lifeless force.
Although her love will envelop him no longer,
a yellow ribbon of hope was tied around his shattered heart.
A battered bible lay crumbling on his lap
yet he still felt the words.
Red-rimmed eyes close over cold blue eyes
a tear falling,
rolling,
to a quivering lip
a heart that tries to beat
as the two pieces try to heal together
and her memory slowly begins to fog over.
Still he remains,
infinately,
forever,
a shell of the person he was.
