To Deceitful Eyes

Poem Commentary

revised edition of a poem not even i am sure the meaning of

To Deceitful Eyes

to deceitful eyes
i stand petrified
on fire for the fuel i seek
i grant them nothing

not even a peek
just the tip of my entrenching tool
without a trace
i vanish like a jewel down your neck

before every saving grace
to whom it concerns
i assure you my face
wriggles with laughter

at your ineffectual squirms
to my deceitful eyes
you fall into my cozy cage
and i descend with a lover's rage

to their deceitful eyes
i cry protectively
shadowing your body
with my own failing frame

i stagger to the entrance and struggle
assailed by deviants
muscles screaming as they tear you from me
and carry you away

our love so pervasive i smell you to this day
my aged, weary eyelids
straining to view another sunrise
lowered to the ground as if on a string

i fiddle with a scuffed silver ring
that i never took off
that i never betrayed
after your death, even then i stayed

i have killed
many in your name
righteous and sinful
all fell to my hollow blade

my rising anger
warring with my drowning shame
to their deceitful eyes
a whippoorwill's song sounds like a lullabye

someday soon
ill know for sure
if all the words I spoke
might be the cure

a phoenix's winged
effortless flight
might take me from my plight
and leave me broken

on a beach in May
and eternally stoned
burning, burning, nothing left
but consuming flame

to your deceitful eyes
your wishful acceptance of blame
that i take into myself
feel it sit like a sponge

if ever i forget
let me know in time
so that i might be honest in the end
and see the truth that you hide

i come from simpler times
i am the sum of lesser evils
i pray that i might recognize
the nature of the path

the bias of the witness
for in your dark eyes i see my redemption
as casual as it seems
no exemption

goodbye window of morning sunlight
in the shadows i lie
and molder upright
welcome to the catacomb of my eternal night

A Very interesting read, indeed. Such pain expressed beautifully within internal torture and self-loathing that can only be expressed the in hate(?) death(?) of ithers. Beautifully expressed. The word usage was brilliant. THanks for sharing this with us, man.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
