Salvation of the Roses
'tween running oceans sandy shoresand hocking notions of better tomorrows
'tween you and i and the glory of love
the hackneyed dreams of songs with doves
released o'er the villages
bombs dropping millions
to discreet encores in social scenes
breathing rhythmically into stifled screams
'tween careless hello's and heartfelt goodbye's
all that is perfect
inside it all lies
as false scented romance and tearful goodnights
abloom in the fields of eden and paris
these followers of jesus
bathe in crumbled flowers and walk
o'er cindered steps
maintaining a core of forgetful innocence
though murders are thrown against concrete
and widows are homeless
in well furnished graves
next door to horrors
mundane and morose
we search into each others eyes
and agree to be close
'tween races for the cliff and the inevitable drop
o'er sunlit banners of shame
we are distraught
o'er what is sought
regret in the cold light of morning
hold onto you as if you were falling
each night we embrace
and disgard the face of reality
'tween dreaming of better moments
and losing ones way on the path of the ideal
'tween the salvation of the roses
i will find you lying still
