Liberated
Liberated
The alarm goes off at 6:00 am,
Jenny rolls out of bed
to make coffee, then wakes
her husband, Paul, up.
She once made Paul get up
to make coffee for a week,
but she hated his coffee,
she always wondered
if he made bad coffee
just to get to sleep longer.
Off to work Paul goes
after Jenny has cooked
him three eggs and bacon.
Next, she gets her two boys
up and out of bed, toughest
task of the day, she laughs.
Once they are off to school,
she empties the dishwasher,
folds the laundry, cleans
out the smelly cat litter box.
Then she hurries to get ready
to work as Executive Secretary
for a man who can’t get out
of his own way, she does all
the work, he gets all the credit,
never giving her any thanks,
but that’s fine, since he doesn’t
ever ask her to get him coffee.
She rushes out the door at five,
buys groceries, then home
to cook dinner for her family.
Jenny feels lucky that
she loves to cook, making
something from nothing.
Must check their homework.
Finally time to relax, putting
her feet up, watching the news,
until her eyes start to close,
she sets the clock, falls asleep
to be ready for the coming day.
