A Moment in Time
A Moment in Time
We two had flown far,
walked the morning long
to be here at this moment;
two mallards,
one green-headed male
and drab brown female
descend into the still
water of this backwater,
this shallow sanctuary,
where no other creature
stirs as we sit
for hours in our blind
motionless, waiting
for this moment;
witnessing their landing,
rippling the water,
then still again,
two sitting ducks.
I raise my sight,
but she signals me
a silent shhh,
with a finger to her lips,
pushing my camera down.
I could see in her eyes
she wants these two lovers
their own private moment,
as her lovely lips stop
me from saying a word,
of us being heard,
so we too could be
one with nature…
