Geronimo
Geronimo
Hardened by the wind,
loved by the sun,
one with the land that
allowed me to live free
born on the open prairies,
free to wander until
the white man came
to fence us in forever
losing my loved ones
allowed hatred
to take hold
of my shattered heart
forced to fight endlessly
for our land,
forced to finally flee
to remain free
so with the wind I rode
inspiring fear
in those who believed
I was no child of God
For a long time
hiding in the mountain,
walking without a trace,
leaving no footprints
then told I would return
to the land of my youth,
only to learn
of their love of lying
I lived out my long life
a lonely prisoner,
knowing all along
I was a child of my God.
