Living as Driftwood
Living as Driftwood
That thunderous night
being splintered
from the tree of life
when lightning strikes
my long limbs fall
into the agitated waters
alone and afraid
suddenly detached
I drift downstream
languishing in limbo
letting the tide
carry me where it will
bobbing up and down
trying to stay afloat
while being dragged
under by the current
until early morning
brings the warm sun
aimlessly following
the course set for me
when the water starts
to pick up speed
dashing me against
the slippery rocks
of the rapids…
Waking on a sandy beach
as the man’s hands
gather me into a heap
with others like me,
setting us aflame
releasing our energy
to dance
out into the universe.
