Crutches

(07.21.03)
Cornered by the time that binds me to my place,
My heart held together with lace.
Mutilated tribulation lines the miles,
Cracked acquaintanceship quiescently lays in piles.
All promises lied and depleted from my pale skin,
I only wish to believe from within.
Clear skies threaten storm,
Abandoned sunlight will never form.
Unexpressed smiles increase no chances for me to fold,
Slipping through my fingers allegiance refuses to be hold.
The hour runs out,
Slowly beginning to count.
It's all gone to busy signal,
Scarce emotions from this angle.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
