    Appreciated

In the light of recent depression

And the loom of the future

    I cannot understate my appreciation

Of the wonderful overgrowth yonder the oft-trodden path

Of the companionship of people that love and listen

Of awing music and thought-feeding volumes

Of good wine and tender filet mignon

Of women easy on the eye

    Of sincerity and winter hugs

    Of humor and proud quirkiness

    Of conversation and masturbation

Of acting stupid on a Friday night

Of Calvin and Hobbes soothing my hangover

Of good news on a Monday morning that really needs it

    Of musing in math class

Of multibillion dollar skyscrapers not being able to scrape the perpetually priceless sky

Of the weeds growing in my backyard

Of sleeping like a baby and dreaming of elsewhere

Of being a part of the human project

And I appreciate the knowledge that someone loves me back

Thank you! :) i've been writing a lot of dark stuff lately, so i thought i'd write something a bit more uplifting to signal that i do realize that the world ain't all bad. :p

Optimism promises a brighter day, fights off depression and rewards one with a deeper appreciation of simple living and a grateful heart. Unique and uncommon sense defines your poem, here! Applause building!

Sometimes you just have to take a step back and look at all the wonders of this flawed world

Sometimes it's the acceptance and appreciation of those little things that most people see as insignificant, that makes everything fall into line and right with the world. Nicely done my friend... I'll be reflecting on that skyscrapers line for awhile ;)

very nicely penned piece, I enjoyed it, I don't have any notes for you (sorry) other than it was a good read :-) Write on...

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
