    water song

    in the ocean,
    children mesmerized
    wipe the sunlight
    from their eyes.

    whistlin old men,
    singin tunes
    drown their hearts
    in muddy waters-
    swimmin in the blues.

    rivers weaken,
    similarly, reaching
    city streets
    in puddles at
    a junkie's feet-

    who hungers for
    the sleep of
    children dreaming
    of the sea.

I love that line "drown their hearts in Muddy Waters-swimmin in the blues!" Very clever word play. This whole poem has that lazy-summer cool vibe. Thanks for sharing!

And even though I love the whole poem, the last verse is closest to my heart. Oh, yes we do hunger...great piece, mlea

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
