Sundown Diner
Stainless steel
calm tooled counter,
cool and to the touch real.
Tall leather stools, strong cups,
ketchup, white aprons, saucers,
warm pies, creme pitcher,
glass salt and pepper shakers.
New Jersey 1987, lost in together.
hazy windy pains upon the window
frost comes by the sill,
hestation with qualms as headlights go.
This misty wet weather,
glimmers as wither goes winter,
red swirl patterned but never still.
The same comfortable booth,
padded wood and perfumeless,
with it's juke box player.
A click to hear R.C.A. sooth
from the master crooner,
and in stormy weather choose Elvis,
released in September 1957, Blue Christmas.
