pain to pain
Depression isn’t just an emotion.
A toy for your head to keep you preoccupied.
It’s physical.
It’s every muscle in your body. Aching.
It’s a feeling, deep inside you.
Somewhere between your heart and your lungs.
It’s heavy, like a load of bricks on your shoulders.
It’s an animal taped inside your ribcage. An animal with murderous intent.
It’s a tickle behind your eyes, cuz your natural reaction is to cry.
It’s a pain in the back of your throat cuz you are holding back those tears.
It’s everywhere in your body, because your body just wants to quit.
It’s a head-ach because your mind is screaming for release.
It’s a retreat into the depths of pain.
It’s your every ounce of strength holding on to sane.
It’s bravery. Reluctant bravery, but bravery all the same.
Because it takes bravery not to just run.
To get away.
To find a way to leave forever.
Even your heart beat will change.
No longer a strong life giving beat.
It’s the sound of timid fists. Slamming the walls of your heart,
Trying to get out.
Your heart is not strong. Just scared.
