One Soldiers' Prayer
As I lay in the battlefield,
One cold dark night,
I'm so scared, I can hardly breathe.
Nothing but darkness,
As far as I can see.
My heart beating so hard,
It feels like it's going to explode.
I think to myself,
It's far too quiet in the night.
I begin looking for stars,
Only clouds I see.
I pray to my God,
He'll watch over me.
Keep me strong and brave.
As others lives depend on me,
Please don't let me fail.
Off in the distance,
A bright flash of light,
Followed by a mighty roar.
It's only a thunderstorm.
I'm glad it's not more.
Some nights all I hear,
Are the sounds of gunfire,
followed by explosions.
But I'm one of God's soldiers
Need I say more?
I'll stay brave until the end.
For now I'll just say, AMEN.
