Winter Dreams
What dreams we dream
When winter comes
We bind ourselves with chains
Friends and family
Debt and duty
Land and obligations
All of which keep us safe
From those dreams we dream
When winter comes
We sit like rocks and walk like penguins
Our mere breath obscures reality
Thought and measure glacially slow
An age goes by
All pushing us toward
Those dreams we dream
When winter comes
Rationalizing every log on the fire
Every measure of snow
Every long dark cold night
Oh what dreams we dream
Of winter done
