Dreaming Red
The door creaked of its own will
For it was certainly not mine
I whispered ‘are you awake?’
No said the saw working a cord of wood
The bed found my toe
In a place I remembered not
Down on to burgundy red sheets
With toe a throb
I dreamed I was in my car
She was beside me all in red
In a dress I don’t remember
Feeling the throb of the engine through my foot
The warm breeze upon my face
Topaz skies and white banners high
I remember the dress was red
And the engine reverberating a sigh
Something disturbed me
The car was gone
Darkness held all
‘What?’ I asked
‘You were snoring’ she replied
My toe throbbed
I remembered the dress was red
And the engine reverberating a sigh
