    Puzzle

Like exquisite Sanskrit written in the snow
But what the wind wrote I did not know

Still there seemed to be an accusation
That I was ignorant through hesitation

Rather than being incapable of knowing
What was written by the cold winds blowing

The wind whispered words most impenetrable
In a language that I found quite unintelligible

And so I stood day in and day out
Listening to the winds whispery shout

Trying with my head cocked just right
To find the key to what was within my sight

I am a mid west boy now living on the east coast, so the memories that poured forth while reading this is quite valuable - thank you for your vivid images. Write ON!

Those snow etchings.... There was a gathering earlier... Blackbirds arguing over which way was south... It was a confusing moment... And, they left... Pointed straight Into... the same wind you your ears peered into... well done...

I like the mystery and the flow of the poem. I also enjoyed the imagery of the 'head cocked'-especially at the end where it really grabs the reader's interest. This imagery really summarizes the peice nicely.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
