church
I sat and stood as required, along with the others
Singing hymns, psalms and receiving my druthers
I went for all the right reasons
Community, coffee cake, and religious seasons
Be good to your neighbor, loving, and kind
This I agree with, and try to keep it in mind
Most of them are nice, it’s such a small town affair
A few self righteous though, shake hands with undue care
It will be a while again before I forget and I, I slink back
I will blame it on the few who’s Christian spirit seems to lack
The Inquisition in their eyes just one step back
But perhaps it’s me, whose heart is so black
