Along Came A Spider
...And along came a spider
Wooly black; crept up from a deep fissured cave, beneath velvet white wind driven snow
Only to crave a crimson flow
Thirsty, a dark spot crawling across a blank surface seemingly not knowing where to go
Looking up from beyond icy soil
The underbelly is prickly striated and hued in midnight blue
From atop the spindly creature
Eyes open wide with the feel of slow glancing crystal droplets pouring from the sky
Glazed silky smooth spinning and turning for a meal to devour
Stealthily it stalks its earthen prey
Hardened fangs find a nearly frozen insect foraging for food of its own sustenance
The anesthetized prize is craftily cocooned and strung tight
To become intricately spun into the arachnid's translucent web
Hung high above the cold solid ground the spider sleeps full
Awaiting a winter wind that will blow it from its laced branches onto the floor below
Temperate on freezing frost the chill will drive the predatory invertebrate back beneath
Burying its body in a hairy layer until it's hunger gnaws at its gut once more...
