A Second Chance Short A Shade Of Gray
A Second Chance Short A Shade Of Gray: Drew Lancaster
Alone in a pasture
One shade short of gray
Ears standing back
Even though I was far away
Stood the battered stallion
Flies his only friends
His eyes black, belly swoll
His pasture soaked in sin
I reached for him a scent to smell
A hand to be kind for once
Ears moving forward shows well
Yet still he woes the price I sell
A simple hand to brush
Cleaning the hooves I kneel
The bridle to contain
What others tried to kill
The blinders set his sight
Others he did not see
Never looked back the day at the track
A champ never looked so sweet
The underdog, they say
The one so white and clean
The one who today won
Trotting fast as if to mean
The one who never should
"What price did you pay", they say
"Just love, see he had no name"
"Thus, A Second Chance Short A Shade Of Gray"
Yes he was the stallion
None would choose to claim
The one who broke the record mile
To win his race today
Thus, let it be known, such grace be shown
There he goes, A Second Chance Short A Shade Of Gray
