Whale Song

Whale Song

I would like to live near whale song.
Where sunsets paint the sky;
Where quiet gardens meet the surf;
And sailboats gently fly.

I would like to live near whale song.
The hammocks caught in the breeze.
And late at night, no light, no light --
I'll string the stars through trees.

I would like to live near whale song.
And honor every threshold
With spells of love and bravery,
That hearts be blessed and bold.

And late at night, when lanterns light
And passing days grow cold,
This glowing hearth, place of rebirth --
Unceasing warmth -- unfolds.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
