Uncharacteristic Cruelty
We shared something nice,
Not to be confused with something special.
Light, fun, breezy.
No strong ties, not even a spoken tether
To give a label to this ‘relationship.’
How unfortunate that you felt the need
To sway the balance by proclaiming your feelings
Loud, deep, and clear.
You ask if I love you.
Why on earth would you ask that?
If I did, I would have told you.
But you press the issue,
Forcing me to explain
Unavoidably hurting you.
It may sound cold, callous,
But remember, you just had to know.
Of course I love you.
I also love to take a nap in the middle of the day.
Stolen moments of guilty pleasure
Leaving me feeling refreshed, revitalized, energized.
But, honey, I’m not always tired.
