My New Path

Poem Commentary

Balladeer's class, the villanelle.

My New Path

As Chopin weaves his lustrous spell,
I choose to roll the cosmic dice,
While I resign my dreams to sell.

I realize now why woe befell,
(Such naked greed will not suffice),
As Chopin weaves his lustrous spell.

Cathedral’s distant ringing bell,
Returns my inner fire and ice,
While I resign my dreams to sell.

Emotions shed, a storm to quell,
An unexpected slave to vice,
As Chopin weaves his lustrous spell.

Why did I seek the fires of hell?
Your conquered powers won’t entice,
While I resign my dreams to sell.

Your kisses cheap, no place to dwell,
Denied their once exotic spice,
As Chopin weaves his lustrous spell,
While I resign my dreams to sell.

love it, love it, love it! What a gothic vibe! So antique, and so mysterious. Also- very spiritual. I can feel ..that feeling. I don't know how to word it, I only can feel it- and you brought it! -Cathedral’s distant ringing bell, Returns my inner fire and ice, While I resign my dreams to sell. -YES..that's what I'm talkin' about! Amazing! Love your work. Maddi

I love the repetitive verses, it puts emphasis on the poem... the flow is powerful and creative... my favorite verse "Emotions shed, a storm to quell,An unexpected slave to vice" you have a way with words, and your vocabulary is astounding!!! You have a gift...keep sharing.

Thank you so much! This was an assignment from Balladeer's class and I was fairly pleased with how it turned out. The real test for me is always seeing how others receive it, to see if I made my message accessible. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
