‘Tis Better to Give Than to Receive
What did I do for love?
The more significant question:
What haven’t I done for love?
I’ve wept, I’ve sacrificed, I’ve grieved
Yet I have never lost sight of who I am.
I maintain the strength
To pour hope into each new endeavor.
I hold on tightly to the essence of my being,
Aware that I am worthy
Of the same special kind of soul-deep love
That I have given so freely
To those who have touched my life.
The love I spend evolves
Always into something new,
Sometimes into something unexpected,
Usually difficult to define with mere words.
Some love transforms into friendship,
Some into an abundance of joy,
Some into a fierce tenderness,
Some into nothing stronger than a fond memory.
But love is fluid, always changing.
And I remain happy to give it away
To those who are worthy.
