    Recipe For Making a Wish

     What do you do when you see a shooting star?
    Do you just notice the anomaly?
    Do you merely recognize the aesthetic beauty?
    Do you simply take a moment to reflect
    on the rarity and think how few people
    just witnessed this miraculous event?
    Or are you one of the few, one of the hopeful,
    who allows yourself to make a genuine wish?
    Because if you're not going to allow yourself
    the freedom of wonder,
    why even bother glancing at the heavens?

    I heard about the magic of shooting stars in children's books. But now, thanks to science, I view them as space gravel getting flung through the protective layers of gas surrounding earth. In a way it stil is miraculous. Without the protective blanket of gases, much destruction would occur on the surface. Having said that, there are still manny sources of wonder and the miraculous out in space, and I sense them when I look up at night. I really like this poem. Harv
