    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem to make people aware of the laws that govern us and the drastic turn they are taking in the face of the war on terror.

    Stand (The Patriot Act)

Knowledge is power and the more you have
the less gullible you will be.
45 days after that horrible day
september 11, 2001 with all the loss of life,
a nation mourned the dead with
    heavy hearts abundant.
Congress passed the Patriot Act and
blinded us from the truth in our grief.
You see there were many sections of
the law that did not have the proper
checks and balances so that our
    constitutional freedoms were protected.
We were blind to the reality because
we were gripped in a terrible
    semi-reality called terrorism.
This act should have not passed,
    we should have been awake,
government is only here to protect
or natural rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,
    not dictate our every move.
This act expands law enforcements ability to
conduce "sneak and peak" searches of
    peoples homes.
The investigators can enter peoples home
or office, take pictures and seize items,
without informing you that a warrant wes even issued,
and there need not be a set period of time.
    Does this give you chills?
I ask you when will the invasion of our privacy end?
Law enforcers are able to collece information
about what books you read, what you study,
your purchases and your medical history.
I shudder to think that one day we may even
have to ask the government if we can go to the
    bathroom.
It's like we are the terrorists in our own country.
Now is the time to wake up and pay attention
sweeping legislation like this should not exist
in America the supposed land of the free.

Not so much poetry as infomercial. It is, and has always been, axiomatic that when safety concerns drive government programs, the government will become intrusive and dictatorial. History continues and repeats, as always.

thank you I agree with you. I believe that the more rights we give up to fight this so called war on terror the more dictatorial this government will become.

This piece is original and innovative. Governments as a whole are deceptive and you brought out the inconsistencies well. Great write...........E
