My Mother
I look at you, my mother, and see scarred hands,
from long hours of work
that carried me from birth.
Tired eyes, from worrying
about overdue bills
and us, your children,
when we were hurt and ill.
A heart filled with love,
when surely we didn't deserve it.
Raising us single handedly,
you selflessly gave us everything you could,
and still do.
I hope that I will be
as strong a mother, as you.
