    My Heart, My Enemy

     I can't trust my heart anymore.
    It has turned against me,
    become my enemy.
    Clinging to false hopes
    and fairy tales,
    It has let me down,
    more times than I can count.
    I can't trust my heart anymore.
    It's selfish and cruel,
    time after time, playing me for the fool.
    What I want, no longer matters
    and when it gets broken,
    I'm the one that suffers.
    I can't trust my heart anymore.
    It has betrayed me for the last time.
    I have hidden it away
    where no one would find.
    Now that it's gone
    maybe I'll get back my peace of mind.
