inside out
I can see when we speak
to each other's face
how you lean in towards me
and then put on the brakes
I smile inwardly because I sense
somehow you have tied yourself
somewhere to a post
and maybe you're waiting my help
I can feel the strength in you
cutting both ways
one that holds you back
the other that wants it to play
I smile inwardly because I feel
your guards have betrayed you
when you put on your hide-behind
you still move when I do
I can believe what I read of you
your eyes do all but say
as I sit here speaking to you
you've been waiting for this all day
I smile inwardly because I know
these feelings all too well
only you have yet to learn
that I too am under this spell
to each other's face
how you lean in towards me
and then put on the brakes
I smile inwardly because I sense
somehow you have tied yourself
somewhere to a post
and maybe you're waiting my help
I can feel the strength in you
cutting both ways
one that holds you back
the other that wants it to play
I smile inwardly because I feel
your guards have betrayed you
when you put on your hide-behind
you still move when I do
I can believe what I read of you
your eyes do all but say
as I sit here speaking to you
you've been waiting for this all day
I smile inwardly because I know
these feelings all too well
only you have yet to learn
that I too am under this spell
