I know you are enjoying yourself
and was looking forward to this summer
being around other family that loves you
but you are 600 miles away
from a mother who misses you
and it is strange without you here
as everyday of mine is a dedication to you
since birth, you have been a bundle of joy
it is you that makes me a successful mother
it is you that keeps me motivated
I could never dream a life outside of motherhood
as it would seem so empty and hollow
this beautiful choice I made
has kept me whole and tender
and has made my life more meaningful
I await your safe trip home sweetie
to see your bright eyes and pretty smile
coming off the plane in a burst of energy
to fill my ears with your exciting adventures
and restoring that void in a mother's heart
that has felt lost since your departure
I will try to stay occupied until you get here
but know, that it is not the same
not until my daughter returns to me safely
